I have a 93 Expo LRV, I know that it is 1.8L but after that there is not much I can say, other than I love this "mini-minivan." A week and a half ago, she just died. I was driving home and I turned a corner and she died, after letting her set for a bit she started back up and I was able to drive the few blocks home. The next morning I got up to go to the store and she wouldn't start. She would turn over but wouldn't catch, so I called my mechanic and he discovered that she had no spark and a part of the distributor was bad. Well unfortunately you can't just by parts for the distributor you have to buy the whole distributor. So we did that, and she was running fine. She was having some issues with dying when I would come to a stopsign/stoplight but after he adjusted the timing belt it didn't do that anymore.
Unfortunately, now she seems to be having the same problem. My mechanic checked the distributor and it is fine, but she still won't start. When she first died this week I would hear a clicking noise when I would go to start, but I bought the car used and have no Owner's Manual and my mechanic is not familiar with working on a car of this type. I need my car and don't know what else to check. Any help is greatly appreciated.

First of all welcome to the forum. I am not very familiar with your particular model but will try to help. I do have links at the top of this section for electronic copies of a manual which may/may not help you.

It seems to me that your problem is either related to the timing belt or ignition systeml. Since you said it was making some noises and did have problems with the dist I would guess you have a timing belt problem. Most likley it has become loose and skipped a tooth throwing the valves out of sequence. If your mechanic had to "adust" then there is something wrong such as a tensioner bearing gone bad. Your probably best to take the upper plastic cover off and have a look to see if there is any noticable damage (wear marks, broken teeth, debris, etc). If this is the case you need to do some homework on replacemnt of the belt, bearings, water pump and seals.

Hope that this is of some help.

Jim

Well he adjusted the timing belt after he replaced the distributor, and the clicking I hear sounds like its coming from behind the glove box.
Just talked to my mechanic today, he got her to start this morning but only for a short time, he too heard the clicking noise and he thinks its a relay, but is unsure of what with no service manual to reference :( He also said something about an electronic diagnosis manual, but I'm not having much luck finding one that goes with the vehicle I have.

Sorry I can't be of much help. There should only be a couple of relays which control the engine ignition (fuel, ECU, sensor, etc) so it shouldn't be to much trouble to find unless someone modified it because of another fault. All control relays should be in the fuse box in the engine bay.

I am happy to report that I have my car back!! After a process of elimination it ended up being the ECU. I want to thank you all for the help and feedback.
