I am about to buy a new lancer gts and was wondering about the nav package over the no nav package.

I want the nav package for the sole reason of having the complete control over the speakers in the car, however the cost of the new car with that is going to be out of my range unless the dealer can do better.

What im wondering is both:

A) is there an aftermarket head unit i could put in? (not OEM nav package, more like aftermarket sony, pioneer, or alpine)

B) can someone post pics of the cars dash with the nav package and without the nav package.

I'll post a pic later.
I cannot comment on what the radio w/o nav can do, but I imagine it can adjust all the speakers.

I say the nav unit is only better if you are using all if not most of it functionality.

If you just want sound control you may want to go with the regular radio, as it may lend itself to the aftermarket better space wise.
But Idk, i have the Nav unit.
Its way too pricey to buy if you're not gonna use more functionality.
It'd be cheaper to do the stock and hook that up when u get tired of it.
I think the Nav unit adds 2000 to the cost, right?
An aftermarket w/ touchscreen will run you less installed.

I dont have nav but i have the RF package. I ended up changing the sub, adding an amp and im soon going to get a new head unit. If you go AM don't waste your money on the nav or RF but i think that comes with the Sun and Sound and you can't have sunroof and no RF system or vice versa. You can get a pioneer or sony Nav unit for like $800-1000 your own sub/s and amp + installation will be towards $1,500+ total (nav-unit, sub/s, amp, wiring, installation) and will sound better and the Nav unit will be up to date and have updates on the website (like sony.com).

And when i did have the RF system and my car was completely stock... My system blew away my step bro's Cobalt's Pioneer system which had a Pioneer Sub in it from dealership and he couldn't change his punch level for sub bass, but we can. He also doesnt have the red and white hook-ups for the ipod.

All in all. Go for cheap at dealership and get AM for cheap at a professional place.

With my car, it was the only manual they had and happened to have the sun roof and RF system. I took it on the spot, it was love at first site.

thanks for the info guys, really helps

Im gonna go without the nav package then. If all i wanted it for was for the speaker control that doesnt warrant adding $2k to the overall price. Besides i wouldnt even use the nav, I can read a map.

The NAV system is worth the money I think. I use many of the other features it has that you cannot get with the regular radio. I like the touch screen dialer for my cell phone, the calandar, the fact I can enter in all the milage for oil changes, etc when I have the car serviced, outside temp, and the many other things it can do. I also like the touch screen for everything.
