1994 Dodge Colt, 1.5 automatic. Started the car and put it in drive. It was like the thing was in neutral, rpm's dropped and it wouldn't move. Tried reverse, nothing. Slammed the thing in park and razzed the gas and it lunged forward like I was in drive.
So I shut the thing off and refired it. This time when I put it in drive, it did the same thing and then there was a clicking sound from under the shifter, as if something was slipping. After that sound everything seemed to work fine...so far. I had also had problems in the past where I couldn't get the key out of the ignition, like the thing wasn't in park.
Open to suggestion, Thanx

check

when was the auto serviced last (should be done once a year )

colour of tranny oil should be red

and level of oil on the dipstick to be between both marks with
engine running in park car on level ground

check the shift cable is ok

any automatiic that losses reverse/drive normally
indicates an oil pump pressure or torque converter problem ?

Thanks. Did the check over as you directed. Seems to be a linkage problem. I'll get to it right after I reattach my exhaust that just blew off. Got to Loooove the COLT!!
