Well, that makes it pretty obvious that it's off
As far as doing it yourself, the only thing I can suggest is to try and reset the reminder manually. Turn the car off, click it over to Start (do not start the car)., hit INFO until you see the maintanence reminder, then hold INFO down for about 5-10 seconds. This should reset the reminder and add 5,000 miles/6 months.
If that doesn't work, then just explain to the dealership that she took her car for maintanance and they turned off the feature and she wants it back on.
If THAT is still no go, then the only other possible thing I can think of is to remove the negative terminal from the battery (while the car is off) and press down on the brakes in HOPES that it will reset the settings for the maintanence reminder. Pressing down the brakes will drain any residual power that is being stored by the car's electrical system.
Dealership is still the best option though... and I say this because I have never seen this issue happen before. Pics would be pretty awesome

I've tried the procedure for resetting it - holding then pressing once - and I've tried the procedure for changing the service intervals - holding then holding three times - but both do nothing. I've tried everything I know for other cars - gas 3 times, combo of gas and button - you name it I've tried it. I haven't tried the unhooking battery and the brake pedal. Maybe I'll try that. QUOTE(Yoemama @ Aug 17 2008, 12:17 PM) I dont think that they should have even touched it,that is not thier responsibility anyways,i would be pissed off.they should have let you keep up with it its better and easier
exactly. I mean, she's smart - she knows when to bring it in and what it needs without needing a maintenance reminder to tell her, but at the same time, its the principle that they had no business turning it off.

That's how they sucker you. I have never taken my car to my dealership for service and they've sent me dozens of coupons (literally) for all kinds of stuff. They just sent me a coupon for a free oil change. Personally, I'd rather do the oil change myself with the stuff I like and brands I trust than taking it to the dealership and having them question my CAI.

Yeah, she brought it in for the "5000 mile service" and I'll admit that I too thought that it was more than an oil change and that she should probably bring it in. Then she brought it in and it was just an oil change. I felt like such a noob :(

The word you are looking for is "newb"... I find "noob" to be a derrogatory comment  If she had the Nav, it would tell her what she needs to get done in the Maintenance Window under INFO.

true, but you still have to check up on it rather than just have the warning.

It's her car, let it be her responsibility to remind herself! ;)
...
OKAY FINE.......
HOW TO SET THE SCHEDULE 1. Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position. 2. By pressing the INFO button, the warning period is displayed on the multi information display. 3. Press the INFO button once for 1.2 seconds or longer. 4. The service reminder indicator flashes. 5. While the service reminder indicator flashes, press the INFO button 3 times consecutively for 1.2 seconds or longer. 6. The service reminder indicator is turned ON, and the current schedule is displayed on the multi information display. 7. While the current schedule is displayed, press the INFO button 3 times consecutively for less than 1.2 seconds. 8. The multi information display is shifted to the schedule selection mode. 9. When the INFO button is pressed for less than 1.2 seconds, the schedule is shifted, and when the switch is pressed for 1.2 seconds or longer, the displayed schedule is set. 10. The schedule set in Step 9 is displayed for 3 seconds, and the warning period to the next time is displayed.

I've already tried that <_< . I think it would have to be done with a computer, because nothing I've tried through the Navi system of Info display does anything. It will just blink and go right back to OFF.

QUOTE(freakingwilly @ Aug 25 2008, 07:42 PM) That stinks... guess she'll have to schedule another dealership visit. This one has got me stumped :460:
Yeah...not very happy with the dealer. They just had no reason to do it.
