"DSM" has nothing to do with the engine. it is merely a term describing the joint operation of Chystler and mitsubishi. the term "DSM" is an acronym for "Diamond Star Motors" and yields from the 2 company's symbols. Mitsubishi is a series of 3 Diamonds and Chrystler is a star, Thus the name Diamond Star motors came about. ALL cars made under that joint operation were technicaly "DSMs" but entusiasts tend to narrow is down to 90-99 eclipses, talons, and lasers.

He is right, and Mitsubishi reclaimed ownership of itself in the 2000's I do not know the exact date. The guy was wondering if that knock was tribute to DSM's, and I only know of a DSM tick to start with and the 420a engine (neon engine) is a very quiet smooth running engine. A good rule of thumb is if an engine knocks, it is bad...
