i know i said i'm "turboing" my 420a...which i want to do...but this deal came up one my friends project talon.

hes getting an evo and he wants one less insurance payment and some extra cash to do stuff to the evo.

the car is in alright shape besides the front fender is bent in..he said the door is out of alignment?(he said its common in first gens?)

when i first walked up i noticed a front mount..i asked him if there was alot done to do..he said hold on...walked in his house and pulled a folder with tons of pappers in it..

the man who owned the car before recorded like everything he bought for the car(i liked that)


i started paging though these pappers and i finally found the good stuff


the turbo is a 20g....i was like whoa...i thought there kinda sorta gigantic?
it has a tial wastegate(looked pretty big) prob 44? mm
some sort of aftermarket exhaust manifold..
all hard pipeing with a crushed bov
and a front mount
3inch turbo back


now this is where it gets weird..

i asked about the fuel system..

he said theres a wally 255 pump
with 450cc injectors..(i think that HAD to be a typo,and i hope it is)

arent stockers 450cc?


we got in the car...and the security system wont let him crank the car over..
something malfunctioned?

so he hot wired it to a push botton start that you still need the key for..and it looks totallly bad ass btw

he has a wideband o2 thats being installed..and theres some sort of apexi fuel mangment (the orginal one) he said its like 4 years old..


the thing starts right up

and ofcourse i stall it

act2600 clutch...grabbed like a half inch off the pedel
i was like wtf started it and rode it like a bitch

i got on a straight and he said give it somee..i punched it..the revs slowly came upp. hit like 3grand and i started to feel it pull..she hit 3,500 and the boost gauge went right to about 13lbs...hit 4 grand everything was finee...hit like 4900 and she falls on her face....(he said when we test drove the car everything was find, it would redline to like easy 7 grand and he said his friend was playing with the afc and must of messed with something)


he boosted 20lbs already..and he turned it down to 17... once it hits like 17 and 5,000 rpms it falls flat..

what causes this?

any other comments?

he wants 2,500 for it

its a 93 with a 7bolt 4 bolt diff with an lsd....

he also has a lazer with a 6bolt he'd sell me for 500 extra

From what i get out of you first post, is that he doesn't know how to mod his car correctly and has probably caused damage as a result. Stock injectors eh?

i dont think the 450cc's could ever make the car run tho

he test drove it with the previous owner...and he drove it with his best friend in the car(who i am also friends with) and they said the car never had that cut before..untill he was playing with the fuel controller...

so do you guys think it could just be as simple as outta tune?

when i had it to the floor and you could hear that raspyness of the dumped o2..ughhh sexxxxxxxxxx....

the bov is also vented in the atmosphere...could that also cause a problem?

put some bigger injectors in it. it's probably knocking and pulled timing WAY back causing it to fall on its face.

I would buy it but not for $2500 unless he threw in the laser for free

uhhh, 17psi on a 20g with stock injectors... fuel cut anyone? hell, the limit on stock fuel for the 14b is ~15psi. turn the boost down to 13 or 15 psi (he does have a boost controller, correct) and see if that helps any. if he threw all those parts on there, then didnt tune it all, odds are its fuel cut. the fuel management system is nice, but it isnt gonna help at all if it isnt adjusted properly. im sticking with fuel cut; turn the boost down then report back.

buy 7somthing cc injectors get a logger and don't pay more then 2000 because, " it falls on its face and there is possible engine damage because of the injectors being to small"

this freaking car screams!

it ran a best 12.4's before the man sold it..

he gave him pack with 4 time slips

and they consistantly got faster...

so this car deffently has potential

^ don't take him with you when you turn the boost down(8psi). that way if it runs like a champ you know the problem and how to fix it.....BUT....if he knows that you can fix it so easily he won't move on the price. let him think the car has problems

it sounds a little dishonest but if he's been taking it to the track with it running like that then there might be some engine damage that neither one of you know about until you do a compression test

he said it never ran like that before..

the previous owner did all that major work..
and the previous owner ran it at the track

i think he's full of shit
