Ok, I've got a bit of a problem going on. My car (96SL) has stopped idling. I have a slow coolant leak and I'm 90% sure it's the water pump (I plan to fix it in the next couple of weeks, water pump is a bitch). It overheated on me today and I was in a bit of a hurry so rather than half opening the cap and waiting for the pressure to bubble out I just pulled it all the way off and the engine compartment was sprayed with coolant. I think that's the cause of the idle issue as other than this the engine runs great and there has been no drop in mileage or power so I don't think the overheating did any damage. The only thing I can think of is that the mass airflow sensor went wacky or something because when I changed the radiator I forgot to plug that back in at first and it didn't idle then either. The only thing is that the check engine light hasn't come on, so I'm doubting the MAF sensor theory. Any ideas what it might be and how to fix it? I don't have enough feet to clutch, brake and keep it running, so I'd really like to fix this one ASAP.

You're lucky you didn't burn your face off!

How's your battery? I've had plenty of car that do exactly what you're describing because the battery is shot. That doesn't seem to relate to any of your other issues, but....

stop driving your car, and get that water pump fixed.

If that thing goes, chances are, so does your engine.

That is the plan.

The check engine light finally did come on two days ago. I'll have the guy who does my water pump grab the code. Hopefully it's nothing horrific.
