Well, from my understanding of the two different types of blowoff valves. One is used two vent the air into the atmosphere creating the characteristic sound that is often associated with turbochargers. The other which over here in North Jersey we call diverter valves basically recirculates the air into the intake without the noise. They both work to release pressure and to avoid compressor surge.

My personal opinion is that it is totally up to the user which type to use. If you want the noise then opt for the open atmosphere type and if you don't want the noise then opt for the closed loop.

Remember... You could go for a hybrid type which essentially does both and in this instance you could make it into an open atmosphere type or the closed loop type. Depends on your mood.

Hope this helps.

pro for open loop...more choices.

cons for open loop.... The air that goes into the intake is metered, and if you let some out than there's less going into the combustion chamber than the ECU thinks...causing you to run rich between shifts.

Both open and closed can sound cool, though, open tends to be a bit louder

my personal opinion, stick with a closed system. You can get an aftermarket closed loop BOV, but dont risk throwing a bearing.
