Hi
I have a 1991 V6 3.0L pajero. The alternator belt is newish but making a lot of noise. Had the belt off and it's fine. As far as I can tell the noise could be coming from the tensioner pulleys - which although they rotate freely, dont feel as though they have any lubrication any more.

Ran some light oil in them and the noise subsided - but that wont last for long :(

Question;

Can the bearings in these pulleys be replaced or do you have to replace the entire pulley? Are there aftermarket parts as I suspect that either MB wont have them or they will be very expensive.
Any tips on how to replace the bearings?
Thanks
Al

Yeah pal, mine does this too... It's the top pulley on mine and, like yourself, I run light oil into mine to cure it - usually lasts a week or so. I reckon there must have been a batch with dicky bearings or something.

You'd probs have to replace the whole pulley - but mine were done a month before purchase (I have the reciept) and they squeaked from new... Replacement doesn't look to be a tricky job but I'm not going to do anything with mine until it gets worse...

Just letting you know you aint alone...

Hey guys,

If the belts are new, change the pulleys or the tensioners. They are relatively cheap and the bearing cannot be changed.

BTW, if the belts were tensioned too tight or too loose, they will squeek also. But replacing a worn tensioner is a better option than trying to replace the bearing.

Putting light oil will not help much as the oil is, light. It will dry up in no time.

I have the same problem with squeaky belt in the same pulley.
I tried rubber grease on it, works for a while then it came back.

so, i spray the damned belt with degreaser, wash it, cranck it for a while (with even louder squeaks), spray it some more with degreaser, wash it thoroughly..
then idle the engine until the belt dries (while wet it rocks up a racket!!!).

Now, it is cured.. no more squeaks for the last 6 months or so..
try it.. what have u got to loose?
tell us if it works, ....or not
