so i always hear and read about codes this and codes that...throwing codes, reading codes...how do i get something to actually get the codes? where can i get the equipment to hook up and find out whats wrong. i have a CEL and ABS light on in my car...id like them to go away

Go to autozone or some store like that... they have the machine to hook up. They can pull the "code" off your car and tell you whats wrong.

there are also code readers you can buy but if you aren't working on multiple cars it's easier and cheaper like fullmetal said

96 is not OBD2 so they can't pull codes. You would have to pull them manually. You can find the codes online probably. Its complicated, you have to use a multimeter or something.

95+ is OBDII. some early 95's are OBDI but anything beyond that is OBDII.

autozone is lazy, go to advance or the dealer is the next option. around here it's $35 at the dealer though
