I have a 2000 Eclipse GT. My remote key stopped working. I've tried a new battery, tried using the backup remote key and also check the related fuses in the car. Any ideas on how to track down the problem? Thanks in advance.

You might just need to reprogram it. Search other threads for related topics cause I believe there are a couple of them that tell you exactly how to reprogram your remote if that is indeed the problem.

Thanks for your reply but I don't think that would be it cause it was working all along before it stopped. Another clue is that there was a really bad storm the day it stopped working. So there could be some water damage but not sure. Thanks again for reading.

No problem. But then again if you think you have that serious of damage you're better off taking it to a shop that specializes in electrical work, or take it to a Mitsubishi dealership and have them fix it. That would be my best suggestion for you at this point.

Cause if you really don't have a clue of where to start you might end up making something worse than before. So I'd leave it to the professionals, (even though it would cost more.) But then again it's usually cheaper to have it done right the first time then try to save a few bucks doing it the easy way and then you have to go back again anyways and fix it right.

I thought I'd try to figure it out before going with the last resort and leaving it with the dealership. Would like to at least isolate the problem to either the car (and the receiver electronics) or the remote (key control).

Glad you got it taken care of, and I figured it just needed reprogramming, afterall we are dealing with Mitsubishi here, and you never know when something might flake out on you.
