first you need a valve spring compressor... then you need to know how to lap valves and valve seats....then you need to know how to press the guides in. but other than that its easy :P

and I understand that pwee, but my issue is the tapping/rattling noise coming from my valves. When I bent my valves on my tsi, it sounds like a damn deisl engine. My eclipse isnt that bad, but does rattle a pretty good noise. So why not just swap entire heads and leave the internals alone? The only thing im worryed about is, it looks like the valve heads on the turbo head are corroded. Like clumps of dirt and the deck is a little black. Im going to call that shop again, but im not paying $400-$600 for this

^ good idea. Now I dont have any LOSE of power or hard time getting up to speed. Its just a valve rattle and kinda sounds like a heat sheild rattle if you get my drift. Oh you think I should take it off to militaryman? Or do you think just run sea foam and try that? I also ran some high mileage engine restorer and high octane booster and fuel injector cleaner.

Sea foam is only like $4, but what line do you think I should run it through?

sears auto has something called Zoom fuel system cleaner. its 3 steps. manifold injected cleaner, crank case oil additive, and fuel tank additive. Cleaning your TB is also part of the service

I did a few of them when I worked at sears and in the cars that really needed it they blew a ton of soot out the exhaust and ran much better

Do you have the revised lifters? Sounds like lifter tick to me, that's all. The lifters can be replaced with the head on the car and the cams out. Very easy, IMHO.

I've had good success with seafoam too. If you're brave you can squirt a little water in while running at 4000rpms in neutral at a large vacuum port like the brake booster port. Water injection steem cleans the valves and runners and such. This is the same thing. I see old v8 guys do this at the track to clean up everything for a track run.

I've never really heard of NOISE coming from a head simply due from gunk on the valves and such. But if theres a blockage in the oil passages, then yea. Or if the lifters are clogged. And, I've had heads with bent valves make noise because the springs couldn't bring the valve stems all the way back to the proper height and the hydrolic lifter couldn't make up the difference. A compression check with the head still together won't hurt.

An 8inch c clamp and an o2 sensor socket is all thats needed to pop the valves from the locks and remove them. Lap them ith a drill. It's fast and easy. But still I think you should just swap in new lifters and see if the noise goes away.
