Okay the Gs-t im looking to get has like 145K miles on it. I'm just want to know if anything, what would go out first. How long would the motor go until it'll break down on me? I just want to know, because i am trading a car for his car. I'm trading a REALLY reliable car for it, a honda! But it'll be a good deal on my part if we go through with this trade. I mean, i can fix alot of things on cars, but if it came down to clutches and transmissions, and maybe internals of the engine, then i'm screwed. Well what i am asking is, persuade me to buy this car!!! because i really like it, but i don't like the reliablity record of mitsubishi's eclipses! how many miles are on your ride?

absolutely no way of telling.. all depends on how well it was taken care of and even then it is pretty random.

yeah i agree with III_K_GT, its imperative that you maintain these cars, oil changes are very important. every 3000 miles or less. this isn't a for sure thing but what could go out first are the turbo and head gasket. two pretty expensive fixes unless you do the work yourself. id recommend buying the 1g,2g, 3g eclipse manual. i think its made by like haymans or something like that. but it tells how to fix pretty much anything on an eclipse. theyre very helpful. i used that to change my head gasket and do turbo work

I finally drove the car today! It pulled really strong, and the kid 'says' he never races with it, and i sorta believe him, he drives very...uhhh 'carefully'. He's easy on the clutch and everything. He also replaced the turbo this april, because the former turbo had some shaft play. The only other thing i would WANT to do is replace the head gasket, and do the regular maintenance.

Thanks guys and gals.

...are there any girls on these forums?

Yeah they all "SAY" that. Talk to thier friends, they'll tell you what really went on. P.S you can trade a Honda for a bicycle and it'll still be a good deal

haha to get back on track yeah changing the head gasket would be a good idea. if i were you it would be well worth your while to put in a multi layer steel gasket maybe from Cometic and ARP head studs. you'll never blow a head gasket again with those two things. and if you do wanna start upgrading, do so inclemently. do your research. if you jump right into it like my stupid ass did you'll find that once you start upgrading its a chain reaction and everything else will start breaking unless you do it right

I have 192,000 on mine, and the only thing that has gone bad on me so far has been the distributor...But then again, mine was owned by a mom, so it was taken really good care of :o. It smells good too :P

My 1.8 had 180000 and the ONLY thing that ever went wrong was the thermostat.

1990 GSX -- 123K -- never abused!

two timing belt tensioner replacements (hydraulic leakage)
two timing belts replacements (60K maintenance items)
intake manifold leak
replaced driver's CVJ (boot had split)
replaced struts (originals wore out)
replaced water pump (seepage)
replaced oil pan seal (minor leakage)
two replaced O2 sensors (recall on first, second on spec -- neither had failed)
replaced turbo (original froze)
replaced tranny backup switch (original intermittent)
replaced heater core (developed a bad leak)
replaced ECU (internal power supply burned up)

Outside of that, the usual items -- thermostat, radiator cap, HT leads, hoses, belts, plugs, air/fuel/oil filters, and fluids.
