if you choose to remove the hose and what looks like a valve (probably so air only goes one direction) you want to remember to plug it up or you will have an exhaust leak.

I would cut it off right at the exhaust pipe and then get a plate welded right onto the pipe to block off the hole.

EDIT: after thinking about it for a while and noticing that you are in California, that pipe might be part of the California emissions system. That could be the reason that I don't have that pipe on my car.

I dont have on either but my car is a 97. However when I put on my AEM full CAI I had a noticable gain, pulls harder, definately harder hi-rev pull, feels like more speed on the e-way, but even before mods it would go over 120mph. so Im not sure if i gained any top-end speed.
Side not anyone know if these are limited or if you can just wind out the tranny to red line?

If its stock it should stop somewhere about 125 at about 5500 rpms in 5th gear if you have an manual trans.

will it cut out, or just kinda level off as far as the acceleration is concerned. Also not to say for sure but I think that 120 is about 4500, and usually 5mph is 500rpm so would 125 @ 5000rpm be about right?

The governor is set to 137 on the GS and RS and BM, however depending on wind resistance, road conditions, grade, etc... you will only be able to accellerate to a certain speed. Due to simple physics, once your current HP at that RPM is equal to the current wind resistance, then you will not be able to accelerate anymore. meaning you will simply be "stuck" at that speed until you let off the gas. Like I said, there are other variables that play a part in the eqquation as well, but for simplicity's sake, I will elave it at that.

Well we have a long hill on a highway here that I always use to see how fast my car will go downhill and I haven't been able to break the 125 barrier in my 96 gs. It gets to that speed and just stops. I havent found a way to get it going faster yet. maybe dropping it off a cliff.

I've owned 9 cars in the past 9 years. Everyone but 1 (my 06 gt) were 4 cyl cars. I had all of them but 2 (my first car a 85 plymouth caravelle and an 84 olds forenza parts car) maxed out as fast as they would go.

Sadly, that speed is only about 95 in my 1997 GS. I think there's something seriously wrong with my car. Might be related to that whistling noise I posted about.
