Hey all, I got an engine from my buddy pretty much free. I thought it only had a blown HG when i loaded it onto my truck but when i started playing with it i noticed the #4 spark plug was unusualy hard to back out. I finaly got it out and found that the whole electrode area on the sparkplug is either crushed or blown off some how. I went ahead and pulled the manifold off of it and noticed that the exhaust port on the same cylinder has a thick wet oily build up all through it while the other 3 look normal. I'v yet to play with it any further but im wondering what could have happend, any ideas?

Well. it's possible the wrist pin failed and the rod knocked the piston up a little too far. that would explain the oil as well. Did you pull the head off yet?

I did'nt get a chance to wrench on it anymore tonight. So whatever went wrong in there will just have to wait til this weekend. Its only a 2.0 non turbo and i got it for next to nothing so im not to worried if it ends up being toast. :57:

I had the same thing happen on my GTP (although its supercharged) it is still forced induction. What seemed to have caused it there was pre-det.

But since it is a non turbo I don't know.. maybe some buildup on the piston busted it off.. Pull it apart and make sure to post what you find!

(are you sure it was never turbo'd)?

where are you located? if it is toast and you are close enough I will take it off your hands

the gunk could just be from the EGR or faulty valve stem seal but........since the plug looked that bad i have to agree with them.

Well I finaly took the head off a while ago and found that it smashed a hole in the piston. Metal fragments ruined the cylinder and the valves for that same cylinder were smashed as well. The head itself is also kinda damaged. So pretty much that engine is screwed cause im not taking a NT to the machine shop. Im probably gonna part it out on ebay when i get the time. (I'll post some pics up tomorrow.)
