Dear Sirs,

I bought a L200 3.5L gasoline 2008. Just after the first oil change at 5300Km, I have heard an abnormal noise when engine is hot at idle engine speed...
Dealer replace the Auto Lash Adjusters but the noise continues.
We performed a test killing each cilinder by removal each spark plug cable...and the noise dissapear when remove the cable N° 2...My questions:
1- There is any piston problem?
2- There is any problem on engine block?
3- There is any problem on crankshaft or bearings?

Do you have any similar experience on new engine?

Thanks for your attention on this matter.

Best Regards

Carlos

Thks for your post kit,

This kind of noise appears when softly accelerate from idle speed(700rpm) to 1500rpm...I can heard a tapping noise that may be produced from the piston botton touching to the cilinder wall...It is very strange noise because engine is really new...only 02 months from new...
I have checked and found other L200 3.5L with other noise from Auto Lash Adjsuters noise...
Maybe the oil specs...we in Venezuela use 15W-40...becasue our temperature average is 32°C...
Other guy told me to use 5W-30...but I think that this is for colder countries...not Venezuela...
If you need additional info, do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanks

Well i vary in my oil specs frum diffrent parts of the year. Temperatures vary alot . Generally in my 3.5 i use 10/30w during summer and 5/30w in winter. My father who is frum and lives in Brasil , generally uses 10/30 round year. I think 10/40 is a bit steep on a new engine but should not really hurt it.

ive never used anything past 10/30w on these engines. Is yurs equiped with an engine oil cooler?

guys,

I have had exactly the same issue. Mine's done the same from 7000km, 1st service. I'm now on 60 000km and it STILL does it... I am also led to believe that it is an oil pressure issue...

It disappears at about 1000rpm. probably when the pump is feeding enough to give good oil clearance. but maybe an oil pressure test is in order??
