Hi my problem is my FTO just cuts out when I stop
It will restart OK but the idle speed is about half what it normally is and although it will idle at 600 RPM and will increase speed if an alternator load such as headlights is added eventually it just stops

it will restart straight away and once it is away from the kerb it drives normally and no loss of performance or any other note able problems just that when I stop it cuts out
Not a great problem on a normal gearbox but mine is an Auto so makes traffic a real nightmare

Any idea's I am not an electronics wiz but do have a fair understanding of the mechanical side of motor vehicles

Here's Hoping

Me again

I noticed that I had 21 lookers but no helpers
So in desperation I decided to Poke and Hope No Guys the FTO

Having looked on sites for spares and advice I decided to take a look at the idle speed control valve ( I found this referred to by several names depending on site )
I removed the unit having used a seller’s site to see what the thing looked like
Not hard to get at and a couple of 8mm bolts and it was ready to remove it did take some pulling and I found out why,
It and the housing was covered in C**p so using some carb cleaner I set to removing the carbon from both the rubber O ring came out easy and on inspection showed no damage so it was cleaned also

It took several goes to clean out the units but eventually with a lint free cloth it was ready to refit the stepper motor but first I decided to see if it functioned having marked datum point to ensure it returned to original position I connected the plug and turned on and ?????????? It worked I motored it in and out a few times confirmed the marks I made had realigned and put it back in the housing and replaced the bits removed to allow access

Hit the key and
It started and sat there idling at about 1000 RPM took it out tried all manner of stops and slow turns and after 20 minutes I decided I had done it

NOT so as when it got cold the only way to get it to idle was to hold the throttle pedal down to about 1000 to 1200 RPM once it got warm though it was fine No more cutting out and a nice 1000 RPM idle but I then remembered reading a little gem on a parts site that stated

Fitting Instructions
1. Remove old stepper by undoing the electrical connector and unbolting from throttle body fast idle valve.
2. Clean area where stepper plunger goes into throttle body.
3. Fit new stepper.
4. Start car and wind idle screw in until it idles properly at about 2000rpm cold.
4. Wait until normal temp is reached at 2000rpm now adjust idle back down to 850~900 rpm

So the car is now out on the drive and I will wait and see if it starts in the morning if any of the 21 lookers are interested please leave a reply and I will tell you what happened on here

Thanks for looking

Roger :nahrung034: :amen: :)

I did not remember see yu posting anything in the FTO area about this , if i missed it sorry

So basically yur saving its having idling issues. As in the ISCV (idle speed control valve) is not correctly operating. On cold starts the ecu will spray richer to get the car warmed up. so it will need more air. if the ISCV is not opening to allow more air at idle them it will basically cause sorta a flooding , unless like yu say yur doing as in opening the throttle sum to allow more air.

Seems yu sorta hit it when yu tampered with it. Its not working , maybe get one at a salvager and try it

The ISCV has a preset open when RPM starts to reach 1000 RPM and lower , as it has to vary the air inlet side to deal with engine loads as in steering and air conditioning being on , and also being in gear if an automatic. What can be happeneing is that teh ISCV is not working and varying the inlet air. As in cold starts it needs open more . But yu say yu have adjusted the manual idle air screw, or other? Seems that the ISCV is stuck fully closed
