Ive owned my 95 for almost a year now. And for the first time ever. My car alarm, which i did not even know existed went off. i don't know what even set it off. So my question is, what all is involved in the car alarm, what sets it off... etc.

It can be a number of things, but mainly movement of the vehicle such as bouncing, shoving, pulling, impacts, somebody driving by with a loud car or loud stereo with a lot of bass, somebody trying to open the door while the alarm is armed, stuff like that.
It varies with the model, and accessories that the alarm has, and the sensitivity settings as well. Sometimes, they just go off by themselves for no reason. hehe
If you REALLY want to know about the specifics of your alarm system, find the alarm module, and look up the brand, and model number on the net. You should be able to find all kinds of info. Unless of course, you have an alarm like mine, that blows monkey chunks, and seems to be some sort of generic piece of shit that doesn't work right.
Good luck. :57:

Disconnect the siren. The alarm will keep it from starting, and you can still turn it back off, but it won't piss anyone off.

So ive asked around and found out its a factory alarm. Now my question is how the hell do i engage or not engage it. A few times when i turn the car off and walk away i see a green "security" light illuminated on the dash. I can't remember doing anything special to activate it though.

Ok the alarm works like this.

It is engaged when you lock the doors. disengages when you unlock the doors.

Sometimes it will not recognize that it was disengaged. (Falsely going off when you open the door after unlocking the door with the key)

Once engaged if any of the three doors open, the alarm sounds for three minutes.

To disengage, close door, put key in key hole and lock and unlock the door.
