It's a 2003 Eclipse GT convertable, auto. I didn't notice this when test driving it, but any time that the RPM's rise above about 5k (give or take) the car completely bogs down and creeps to redline.... and the whole time it does this i heard a loud hissing noise from the engine bay while driving.

Here's the kicker though, it didn't do it while in neutral and just revving it...... UGH, any help is appreciated, and it's great to be here, i'm Arthur!

P.S. yes it's under warranty, BUT i'd like to get a good idea of what's wrong so they don't try to screw me at the dealer.

Welcome to the forums.

As for your problem, it could be a number of things.

I had this same type of problem, I would get up above about 4500RPM's and I would feel a huge loss in power and then I would also hear a hissing noise like you do. Turned out I had a stick in my stock intake and it was clogging it causing the issue.

It could be a vacuum leak that's causing this cause there was a 2000 GT hatchback that I testdrove and it did the same thing but I didn't buy it and 1 week later I saw somebody else test driving it but it was broken down on the side of the road with smoke pouring out of the hood.

Or the other one I could think of is that the scoop for your stock intake, could be loose and flopping around and that could be causing it. Cause quite a few people have described your symptoms and that was what turned out to be the issue.

Off the top of my head those are the things that I can think of that might fit your situation. So I hope one of those ends up helping you out.

Use zipties, it will fix it for quite awhile and do a damn good job of it.
