Hey guys, I own a 95 eclipse GS with a chrysler 420a engine. Some people I have been talking to say that the GS with the 420a engine is much harder to get parts/upgrades for IE turbos and all that then the other eclipse models like the GS-T or GS-X with the 4g63 engine. Just wondering if there is any truth to that. any input would be appreciated :) thanks a bunch

Um, you can get alot of stuff for the 420A. They just dont mass produce as much for that motor as they do the 4g63. The 4g63 is in older eclipses when chrysler didnt have 420a motors in the eclipse until 95. Also we have hyundai's and others with the 4g63. They do make a turbo kit for the 420A

also just to turbo the 420a is alot more work then the 4g63. the 4g63 already has is set up for a turbo well the gst n gsx that is. in order for u to turbo a 420a ull need oil feed lines water lines oil cooler and more just can remember all. and if u were to go turbo ud prolly have to build ut block up also if u plan on wantin more the 7psi in boost

thanks for the responses guys. also wondering if the 420a comes in a v6, and if so where can I get one. Reason I am asking is because the current engine in my eclipse has bent valve stem seals and and a few other minor problems, so I was looking to get an entirely new engine, preferably a v6 turbo but have been unable to locate one. so any info regarding that would be much appreciated, thanks again :)

HUH? A V6 turbo? Just put a new 420a in it and turbo it if you want turbo. I have a full kit minus a few things if you are interested.

P.S. This forum really needs a multi-quote option. *cough pwee cough*

Either way its gonna be a pain. the 4g63 swap is a pita and, like jugs said, to turbo a 420 you need to run custom water lines, custom oil line, drill + tap a bung for the oil return on your oil pan and so forth. You also SHOULD do a performance rebuild if you plan on turboing it. Alot of people think that you can just bolt the turbo kit on. In reality they are wrong.. very VERY wrong.

Yeah, +1 on all the custom turbo stuff.
I had to find it again, cause it was moved, but here is all the info for doing a 420a turbo conversion: http://www.mitsubishi-forums.com/t23057-no...-conversion.htm

I priced it all out (sort of), and it costs a shit load to do a good 420a turbo conversion, since I wanted to do the same thing. It costs so much to do it, that it would actually be more cost effective to just save up around $2000, sell your GS for the same, and buy a GS-T if you really want to go turbo. It's what I would do anyway, and exactly what I AM doing. That link has a LOT of good info.
A 420a V6? No such thing. If there was a V6 420a, it wouldn't be a 420a anymore would it? Maybe a 430aT? Ooooohhhh...... I gotta get me one of those. hehe

lol yea it way easier to mod a gst or gsx. but if u plan on goin over 350hp i might wanna consider buildin ur block up also. i think u can go up to 400 on stock internals but i wouldnt go ne higher then that on a stock block

hmm... a v6 turbo 420a.... Chrysler has their 2.5L turbo motor from the lebaron now I want to see how it mounts in the car. The next time I see my brother I am going to have to look into it. Personally it wouldnt be worth swapping for it since its only rated at 155hp but now I am curious. I know it mounts differently because of the car but who knows maybe there would be a way to do it. The larger displacement along with the turbo theoretically would be a great platform to start with.

well thanks for all the info guys, sorry I didn't say so sooner but have been busy and haven't gotten a chance to drop in the forums. Just one last question for everyone. I live in nova scotia, canada and am wondering where I would go about getting my hands on a 420a, either a site, company etc. if someone could point me in the right direction that would be great, thanks again everyone.
