I just picked up a very nice 1993 3000GT SL. I was wondering what kind of relatively cheap upgrades can be done to gain a few horses. I know on my 79 corvette just doing intake and exhaust gave me some noticeable power increases. What kind of upgrades can I do on this 3000gt to pick up some cheap power? This car is going to be my daily driver and wasnt bought for speed but who can resist? :blush-anim-cl:. My vette spiraled out of control and about 10grand later its got a estimated 450hp so im not looking for much. Trying to pick up a extra 50hp and torque by doing the cheap basic stuff. Any input is appreciated

prettymuch the same kind of stuff as any car. Intake and exhaust are the easiest. Get rid of the EGR system (if emmissions wont be a problem).
A small nitrous system is always a good bang for the buck.
Past that, your looking at engine stuff...but that will start to hurt your mileage, which you probably dont want on your daily driver.

Does deleting the EGR really help that much? Like is it even noticeable

50 HP gain from bolt ons is not going to happen.

Is there a good cold air intake for a non-turbo? Where is a good place to run the intake from. There seems to be a good size cavity behind the bumper cover on the passenger side corner (?)

In the thread "you know you're a 3000GT owner if..." I saw a few people bragging about how great the stock exhaust is. Is it really that great?

yeah the stock exhaust is pretty good, particularly on the turbos, a little better than your average stock exhaust. and from what i have seen there really aren't any cold air intakes, for price your best bet is just something off ebay, i got an open element and a pipe for about 40 bucks shipped, or if you want to use the cavity in the front where you would normally have an intercooler you could do like i did and make a custom intake :P .

Pipe is pipe... mostly.

Get on Ebay find an intake, throw away the filter buy an K&N cone filter and theres your intake.

Or take the resonator off plug the hole. Get the MAF adapter and get a K&N and your done.

I'm a firm believer that an intake and an exhaust on the NA cars does little to nothing.

The car was built with performance in mind. Look at the S2000 and the 350Z, there is not an intake or exhaust that has honestly raised the torque of the car. In most cases there have been performance drops.

A total of 8 HP gain is not worth the $800 one would spend on an intake and exhaust.

$800 for an intake and exhaust? Stay away from brand name and cut that by almost 2/3. The intake shouldn't run more than $50 and the best thing to do with an exhaust is just have a shop custom bend pipe. For example, my Eclipse 420A (N/A) has exhaust kits going from about $375 on up to a thousand or more (including ebay pricing, which should be only used for an intake or shift knob), but a shop will bend me the exact same thing for less than $250. An N/A 3KGT shouldn't cost all that much more to custom bend. As with many things, if you buy an exhaust pre-made, you're paying mostly for the name.

The stock exhaust is probably fine, but mine is probably original (13 years old), so may as well upgrade it in some way.

When you have one fabricated, do you bring them the old parts and say “make me a shiny one of these” ? :clap:
