When I am running my air conditioner, sometimes when the compressor turns on, it causes a squeal for about one to two seconds. Sometimes it can be quite loud. It was recommended to me to change my serpentine belts because the extra load of the compressor was causing one of the belts to slip, causing the squeal. Made sense, and also, a slipping belt describes the squealing sound pretty well.

So I had both belts replaced, $200. The mechanic said the belt that has the A/C was very glazed, while the other one was very cracked and glazed, and it was about time to replace them anyways. However it didn't solve the problem, still the same sound.

Any other ideas what could be causing the noise?

is it possible they didn't tension the belt correctly? Should I take it back in?
