Hi…..I have a 1996 Eclipse RS, 2.0 DOHC, no Turbo. I recently took it to a mechanic to see if he could locate an oil leak. He told me that the cam sensor (don’t know if this matters, but he said it was the “upper” cam sensor) was leaking and needed replaced.
I have a few questions. I’m not a mechanic, but I was wondering, how hard is it to replace the cam sensor? Also, if oil is leaking out the sensor, why do I have to buy a whole new one…..why not just the seal/gasket for it.
Thanks for any help!

take the sensor off, go to an autoparts store and ask them for an o-ring that is the same size. cheap fix

btw there is only 1 cam sensor, not upper and lower

^no, he = dumb. thats what the CAS is. (cam angle sensor)

it's on EVERY 1g. they either have a green top or a black plastic top and they were on the intake cam located on the throttle body side of the engine.

it's an upgrade for the 2g guys because it's adjustable and will advance base timing by 5 degrees. (1g timing is more aggressive). It is also a MUST when doing a 1g head swap
