I have a 1994 Montero with a 3.5L DOHC 24V V-6. I'm having a heck of a time after an engine swap with no spark at the rearmost coil pack. All options have been exhausted (see my other post) to find the reason for this; and I am fairly convinced the ECM coputer may be faulty.

Does a Mitsubishi dealer have a way to test this, or is this a "buy to try" item like the other 6 parts I've bought.

Thanks for your help!

If it has fried something you will be able to see it with out outlaying any cash.

Hope this helps.....

This has always been a problem trying to test something which you don't know if it is working or not. Generally, they sell you a new one and if it doesn't work you return back in an "unused state". To me you are better off using a loaner ECU from a know vehicle to test on yours. Another option is to buy a second hand one or exchange yours with a person who programes these for aftermarket re-chipping (check ebay). They may even have the capabilities of testing yours for a small fee.

Another thought is to remove and open up to see if you have any of the related capacitor problems. In ECUs built before 95 the electrolytic caps leak and the acid corrodes part of the PCB (printed circuit board) shorting some terminals out. Not a problem to fix but first you have to find the problem.

Hope some of this helps.

Jim
