I have about 2000 dollars. and i think im going to but this eclipse Click me) anyways, i have a bout 3 weeks before i get my licence, and i want to buy this car before i get my licenece. But im not sure about a couple things...like insurance.. When MUST i have insurance? do i need it before i buy the car? before i take the driving test? or just before i start driving my own car? also, i only have 2000 right now, so should i just buy the car, and let it sit there for a month or 2 before i have neough money for insurance? or can i just pay off the insurance monthly? or whta im really confused what to do, and my parents are being rediculus about me, and making me pay for everything myself, and offering me no help. Thanks -.-

Thanks -.- Whaaaaa, your parents aren't gonna buy stuff for ya, whaaaaa. Dude, grow the fuck up! First off, do you have a job? If no, then get one and save up more money, 2G's is a good down payment for something from the late 90's to maybe the early 2000's. If you do have a job, good, keep saving. You don't want that old P.O.S. unless you have the mechanical skill's and knowledge to fix it. You're very young, just take your time and find something worth wild. Trust me, I used to jump right into shit and regret it later on down the road.

dude these guys know what they are talkin about...even tho thats not what i did. i bought my 91 galant when it had 176000 on it and it runs great. the only thing is make sure there is some kind of maintenance paperwork, or just plan on doing it all yourself as soon as you get it, like me. as soon as i got it i did a complete once over, checked EVERYTHING. changed the oil and the belts, i dont care when they said the last time its changed is. the air and fuel fuilters would be next. everything has to be changed out so u know FOR A FACT that its been done.
as for waiting, or buying it now, either way is good and bad. if u buy it now you have to watch it sit and cant drive it, but you have a lot of time to start your modding and everything. :) if you wait, you get more money, but cant even start looking around for mods cuz u dont know what car u weill have. BRM is 100% correct. if you wait and get more money just put down an awesome down payment and get a newer car from a used dealer. u might need a co signer tho since ur young, and if ur parents arent helping then ur kinda boned.

hahah, thanks for the responses guys
as for BRM, i have a job, yes, but its at a grocrry store, and they dont give me very many hours. BUt my friends hooking me up with a job at htis bakery (hopefully) and she said i would get atleast 200 bucks every 2 weeks, which should give me a decent amount of money for everything in a month or so.
also, about the co-sign thing. im thinking thats whats going to end up screwing me over. So like, should i just talk to my parents about it?
as for a down payment, idk if that a good thing for a 16 yr old to do, cause like, i wiuld have to pay for that monthly wouldnt i? along with insurance?
and in all honesty, i wouldnt mind the car sitting in my garage. I would be working on it anyways, with any money that i could get for it.
i know alot of my questions and stuff may seem stupid and such, but, again, im only 16, and im not getting any answers elsewhere. so :/

If you own on a car in any form it has to be insured. You don't have to have it registered, so it could sit in your garage, but you'd still be paying for it. Your parents sound like they're doing a favor for you. But you can just talk to them. Tell them you really want to do this on your own, but can't without their help in the beginning. I think they'd be fine with helping you out for your first car. I bought my car when I was 16 but I paid 4k cash, and I had saved for forever. My parents helped me out, but I had to beg  If you give a down payment, it will lower your monthlies a bit. Mostly its $100 off for every grand or so. Thats how most companies work it, depending on your interest rate. So if you're looking for a loan, make sure you look at what the final amount will be. It can be higher b/c of the interest.

QUOTE(militaryman108 @ Aug 29 2008, 08:43 AM) When i was 16 (maybe 17 can't remember) I bought my 93 with my own cash for 3g. it had a brand new 6 bolt, turbo and rebuild tranny. it was a steal. then my parents intervened cuz it didn't have airbags. my dad now owns the 93 and they upgraded me to the 95. Worked out pretty well.
Play the safety issue with your parents if you want. Tell them you really want this car, but it doesn't have airbags. They may bump you up to one with airbags :D
hahah, ya or theyll be like, "just get a honda civic" lmao..-.-
