1998 Eclipse GS, 420A.

i've had it looked at once and said it was a common issue but no for sure answer was found, i was first to check the map sensor which i already replaced and bought all new plugs and wires.

car ran a little better throughout the day and the next its doing the same old thing

the spark plugs get completely charred black and my exhaust blows out a black smoke when revved and is really wet.

i dont have to be driving around a lot at all and whenever i come to a stoplight and sit once my RPMs drop down around 400-500 the car completely drops in rpm to almost 0 and almost stalls then kicks on high around 1600rpm and then drops down to an idle again.

i have no idea what to check now, i've looked at about everything in that car.

hellpp?

Try the FPR.
I think they run about $25 or so.
They are easy to replace, but that fucking snap ring is a ROYAL pain in the ass to get back in.

EDIT: I would also suggest changing the fuel filter if you have not done so already. After you replace the FPR, also check the fuel pressure.

Its a common issue on the 4g63T when people run open Blow Off Valves. I'm pretty sure its not common on the 420a engine.

How do you know its running rich, or is that just a speculation?
