I have a 1995 montero sr that shut down on me as i went around a corner. After it leveled out .I restarted it and drove it home then checked the oil and was 4 quarts low. Does this engine have a fail safe that shuts down engine when there is low oil. It seems to run fine now but i dont want it to stall at the wrong moment. Thanks :(

In your dash board the "low oil" should light up. But the best way to prevent engine break down is to check your oil frequently and have a regular change oil.

Yes the "low engine" light should have gone on. But my main question is WHERE did the oil come from??? I would not drive that vehicle until you have a mechanic look at it because either theres a very serious leak or you don't check your oil very often, but either way your lucky you didn't blow your engine. Seriously bro use an engine cleaner on your engine and locate the leak. Then go into a mechanic and say theres the leak fix it. Otherwise you could get reamed if you don't seem to know what the problem is GL and update this post if anytrhing changes. Hope this helps 8)

Let the engine run at idle for 10 minutes then have someone rev it up and stand by the tailpipe and look for blue smoke as your engine may be burning oil internally.
