I have got a 2000 GT automatic. Recently it has been shaking at around 37 mph, in fourth gear and pressing on the accelerator lightly, going uphill or level road. The shaking goes away if I take over manual control and down shift to third gear or if I accellerate more. Seems like the logic to down shift is not working quite right. I am running premium gas if that helps. Also, there is no "check engine" light or anything like that. The air filter is ok and i have done an oil change already.

Could be an actual transmission problem. Take your car to a dealership and pay them to run a complete $100 diagnostic on your car. It will tell you if there's anything wrong with your transmission and it will also tell you if anything else on your car is about to go bad.

Before you go. What kinda shaking is it? If its like a small shake and then its over, then its ur overdrive. If its continuous shaking, then reset ur PCM. take the battery off and put back after a while, and see if its works. If it still does it, go to dealer.

It'll shake only under specific conditions: 4th gear, at around 37mph, and i'm accelerating lightly, maybe around 1200rpm.
If I accelerate more, it goes away, if I lift off the accelerator, it goes away. If I manually overide and downshift the automatic transmission to third by going to the sports mode, it goes away.
Thanks for reading.

sounds like a problem we had with a cavalier. Check the trans fluid level and condition. Possible that the torque converter has a problem. Ours was the fluid level since there is no dipstick it was hard to check. Look at that first then if its fine take it to a tranks shop. Good luck.
