I'm finally getting to work on my (fairly) newly acquired '77 colt wagon which I think has around 65000 miles travelled. The solex mikuni carb was well on the way to being a lump of oxide of what ever alloy they made them out of, so I put on a weber DFEV conversion kit . The results were excellent . The kit was for a '78 and later but the adaptation for a '77 is simple and I assume would work for earlier models as well . I can give some instructions to any one who wants because the instructions with the kit were not what I did . Incidentally, it's a 1.6L. I'm wondering about loose ends in the emissions system plumbing. The only vacuum port on the weber is for the distributor. On the original there was a tee to the EGR valve . I'm still undecided what to do there. Many people would say block it off but if it's functioning properly..... Mainly, what I'm wondering about is crank case venting. There are 2 hoses venting the crank case . One is in the front of the valve cover near the timing chain. That would seem to be the one to vent into the air cleaner (it was vented to the air cleaner in the original setup) it's about 3/4" in diameter(I.D.). The other ,which is new to me, is about 1" (I.D.)and is further down on the side of the block in front of the exhaust ports . Between this hose and the block is a reed valve into the crank case. This hose was also vented into the original air cleaner but had an extra "tunnel" passage that went 1/2 way around the air cleaner before venting into it. They both enter the air cleaner inside the filter element. Can anyone give me some advice on what to block up, what to re-route and where and what some of these things are? Here in Texas, cars over 25 aren't subject to any emissions test or equipment check. I would like to be as responsible as possible as far as contaminating the air is concerned so, suggestions to that end would be appreciated. This is such a well designed and made car! You get the impression the people who designed it had some idea of actually working on cars. Thanks for your help! drive friendly P.S. I just noticed a tiny(1/8-1/4") hose from the side of the valve chamber, under the valve cover , into the intake manifold. (?)
