Hi guys..hello from Fiji!

I have a TE magna with a 6G72 motor and auto trans. It died on me while driving and wouldnt start again. There wasnt any spark so i replaced the dizzy and it started.

There is another problem now. If the car is parked and you floor it all of a sudden, it will start to hesitate and misfire and wont rev past 1000rpm but if you depress the acc pedal gradually, it will rev up normally to 5000 - 6000 without misfiring.

When you take it for a drive, if you depress the acc pedal to about a 1/4 it will accelerate slowly but anything more it wont and will start to misfire / backfire. You have to release the pedal back to 1/4 for the car to move.

There are no fault codes, fuel pressure and flow is within specs, TPS and TPS wiring has tested out fine, i have replaced the air flow meter (working and identical) from a KR but it still does the same thing.

Compression is 175 kpa in all cylinders and i have replaced the plugs as well.

The car starts first go. I have cleaned out the throttle body as well.

One thing i have noticed is dat the plugs are carbon fouling which is probably caused by too much fuel so im thinking theres a problem with the ignition system. Also, if the correct plugs arent used, will it misfire? If so, then why doesnt it do it when i accelerate slowly?

Has anyone else come across a problem similar to this and how was it fixed. Are the ECU's a common problem with these vehicles?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as it has got everyone stumped here and good help is hard to find.

Also if i replace the ECU with a second hand unit, will i have to reprogram the keys to the ECU or will it be a plug and play job.

Thanks guys.

Its hard to say. Yu say yur fuel pressure is within specs but it seems yu are having a fuel issue. Is yur fuel filter plugged up? I have seen sum cars give really good "standing" fuel pressure but not the required fuel pressure for overall correct drivebility. When the vehicle needs a large fuel spray the accurate line pressure isnt there to have the injectors spray at full potential. But slowly using the throttle is not requiring a large fuel spray as is why it will accelerate when not under a large load.

Yes using incorrect spark plugs and gap settings can cause misfire. People say no but it does. Diffrent plugs are made to work with an engines specific heat range and ignition system etc. Right on it may not show but will develope soon after issues
