+1 the machinist can do that for you but he might not put things back where they came from. pull everything but the valve guides and label it all so you know where to put them back

This may be a stupid question but, what is "hot tanking", and what are the benefits?

hot tanking has other names like: cook and clean, acid dip, etc

it's done at a machine shop where engine parts are soaked in a heated chemical solution that will degrease and clean the parts. The chemical they used in the past is much better than the "environmentally friendly" chemical they use today. But it still cleans things up pretty nice, just doesn't eat the rust off like it used to

Um $150 is expensive for valves. I mean you can get them for under $100 as long as your OEM stock.

Cool. I get it now.
It's more or less like throwing stuff in an industrial parts washer. We used to do that at the tranny shop I worked for a few years. All the transmission cases we used to rebuild would get run through it, before rebuilding.

$150 is expensive i thought that was quite good??? so then where can i find a new valve set for under $100?

but anyways i did not have the head hot tanked or have new valves put in, i found a complete head for $100 and im going to go pick it up today, i figured this would be cheaper then getting new valves and hot tanking my old head...

there are good deals but you really have to be picky and ask the seller a million questions until you are satisfied

Depends on the seller really. 99% are great. Better than most online stores actually. But there are con artists out there. Still there's alot of great deals to be made just be careful and know what you're buying.
