I drive a 2001 GT.
I'm having a turbo put on my car (I ditched the SDS idea because I talked to someone with it on and he changed belts weekly and wasnt waht he hoped for), with a high flow cat put on the back to pass PA emissions testing. The only other test that PA requiers is the OBDII testing and the engine cannot throw a code/have a CEL on

For those that have turbo'd this car, what code does the car throw? and have you fixed it?

Or just get a piggyback ECU and have it tuned so that it already knows you're running a turbo. It's easier to go that route than to mess with your stock ECU when going turbo. Not to mention it will give you much better performance than your stock ECU will.

A piggyback will only trick your car into thinking you have a turbo, it won't actually tune 100% correctly for the turbo.

Yes but it will get it to not have a CEL, and allow you to pass emissions. And it's still better than the stock ECU.

awsome thanks guys

the installer who is rebuilding my engine right now becuase of the mysterious piece of a bolt or something (in my other post) at import intelligence said the car always throws a code when its turbo'd..its just what this car tends to do..so i was trying to figure out why...the front 02 sensors MUST be connected correct? since they determine the AFR i'd think they are manditory, and the rear one could be what would have to be messed around wiht..i'm assuming that is what would throw the code

You'll still throw codes with a piggyback, they just won't show on the CEL. Once they plug that little cable in, it will tell all. The best thing to do to would be to get an ECU chip specially built or get those O2 sensors knocked out of the way.

A piggyback only tricks the stock ecu to change the A/F ratio. SAFC and E-Manage are really only for cars that are previously turboed. Rick ran SAFC on his TurboSi and it would throw codes everywhere. So, he switched over to a OBD1 and had a Hondata put in it, now he has no problems.

the guys said its something like a map sensor voltage overload or something...in theory couldnt wires be played with (since theres 2 map sensors in the setup i'm going with) to change the voltage seen by the obdII to remove that overload or stupid little fixes like that that can be done (ONLY!) the day of the test to eliminate codes, and then whe ntis over pull slowly around the corner and undo all of the little things to make the car run normal again? i'm not talking legit changes here i'm talking like real shit rigs, but the place said all they need is no codes and the proper sniff test (high flow cats) and they will pass it...no popping the hood or anything

is the E-Mannage ultimate a piggy back too or is it a standalone unit?

If i got a standalone ecu would it stop throwing codes? Really set on figuring this out

The Emanage is a standalone, but I'm not sure if it will completely get rid of all your codes.

Take it to a tuner shop, tell them what you need. Pay em. Pass the test. Best route. Don't bs around. IF you get caught you'll have bigger problems.
