I have an '02 Eclipse GS (auto, 4 cylinder, not that I think it matters) and I have several issues with the locks. First, when I try to use the remote, it won't always unlock. I'll click to unlock it, hear it unlock, then when the door is just about to leave the latch, it locks again. So I end up with a partially closed door. Sometimes I have to unlock it 3 or 4 times just to get it to open. Second, Just today as I was driving, the doors kept trying to lock themselves. I tried calling a dealer, but they want to charge $90 just to look at it. Hss anyone had this problem and does anyone know a cheaper way to fix it?

P.s. The guy in the service department says that my problems are mostly likely NOT due to a dead/dying battery in the remote. But I may change it anyways.

The mechanism that controls the door locks is going bad.
