I just picked up my '09 GTS today (Rally Red CVT w/ Sun & Sound and Navi), and the dealer said that for '09, Mitsubishi only gives you one FAST key and a spare key.

The parts guy said a second FAST key would run about $140 + $40 for programming. I was wondering if anyone here knew of a place that sold them for less.

I searched the forums, and checked out a bunch of the different links to parts stores, but didn't come up with anything.

I picked up my 09 gts in june and got two fast key remote/fobs and two spare keys that hook into the fast key fob. As far as I know you should have got two(unless mitsu changed something recently). In fact my dealer almost forgot to give me the second key and had to stop me before I left to give me the second fast key. I never heard of a dealer charging for extra keys. IDK, I'd go back and ask for a second one for free, make a stink about it if needed. Tell them others got two fast keys.

When I got my car a few months a go, it only came with one key because it has a starter/alarm which took up the second key.

I ended up purchasing one. Put me back about $200.00. The problem with these keys is that you cant buy them anywhere else because they need to be programed into the car. It takes about 5 minutes for them to program it once it is cut.

If you ask me, it is just another gimic for money.

Hmm... well, my Lancer was transferred from another dealer and the driver "forgot" the second key.

My purchase order says that they'll send me a second key, so hopefully, it will be a FAST key and not just the emergency key.

Though, the manager seemed to be pretty convinced that Mitsubishi was only giving one "to cut costs". According to him, they also stopped putting the owner's manual in a vinyl cover for the same reason. (This is the first Mitsubishi I've owned, so I have no idea if he's serious or not.)

I got 2 FAST keys. Cutting costs or not, you're paying tens of thousands of dollars for a car... you should get 2 keys.

And about the drivers manual not being in the vinyl cover... I'll vouch for that. Mine came in a plastic baggie.

This sounds like the original dealer kept/lost the second Fast Key and your dealer doesn't want to eat the cost of getting you a 2nd one. I would call the 800 number ask them flat out as to how many keys do you get when you buy a car. I have never heard of 1 key when you buy a new car. It sounds to me the dealer is giving you the run around and I wouldn't tollerate that. I got 2 keys and 2 fobs when I bought my 08 Lancer and the owners manual came in a plastic baggie.

Two FAST keys and two manuals in vinyl pouches.. though that doesn't really count since one of them was from the first wrecked Lancer :P

I don't have the fast key, but I still got two of them. I acutally got the out lander manual in mine... had to take it back to get the right one lol. All new cars should come with two, thats how they come from the factory. If they tell you other wise they are just being lazy. Really what do they need that other key for anyway?

But yeah it does sound like they are a cheap dealership. If you get that second key and its just the emergency one I would bitch!

Thats BS i got two FAST keys and two physical keys. One was handed to me and the other was in my packet with vehicle warranty info and stuff. Since you car is new go back to the dealership and talk with your sales person. Make a big deal out of it not being rude but be forceful they will give you another key trust me i work for a car dealership and they want to keep you around for that next car in a couple of years. Dont go to parts talk directly to the person who sold you the car.
