2002 Spyder GT, mechanic wants $185.00 to replace the spark plugs! I purchased the plugs (sparkplugs.com) and the price is the same... Needless to say I walked out.
After looking under the hood I was unable to locate the plugs, so I think they must be located under the exhaust manifold. Is this correct?
Are the plugs a real b***h to replace? About how long does it take to replace them?

I tried looking at (http://www.eclipsed4utoo.com/EclipseServiceManual) however getting 404 Error.

Thanks,

Bogy

since you have a GT that means you have a V6 and therefore your spark plugs are seperated, three in front and three in back. the three wires that cross the valve cover in the front, where those wires end is where your spark plugs are. the front ones are easy to replace but the ones in the back suck (you need to take off the intake manifold) but once you take off the intake manifold its really just the same thing as the front.

hope that helps! message back with results

Actually the exhaust plenum(or exhaust manifold) is what you need to take off, not the intake manifold.

You're an idiot. The upper plenum is an intake plenum, NOT an exhaust manifold. Unless you know what you're talking about, please don't post.

To the original poster, you're located in Alexandria, VA which is about 30 mins from me in Fairfax. A quote of $185 is actually cheap for labor, considering by the books this is a 4 hour job, and most places will quote you upwards of $500. I would recommend that you learn to do it yourself but considering you can't "find" spark plugs, you probably shouldn't even do your own oil change.

The motor is a V6, meaning - you don't just have 4 spark plugs inline. You have 3 on the right bank, and 3 on the left bank as the motor is mounted sideways in the vehicle since it's FWD. You will notice people toss the term "front bank and rear bank", but that's just to make it easier to know which is which, but in reality, there is no such thing as a "front or rear bank".

Just pay the $185 to get it done with whoever your mechanic is. Otherwise, you will get the car half apart and get confused and end up paying more to tow it AND have someone put it back together.

Rather than continuing lecturing you n00bs, I'll leave it at that.

My mistake, no need to get cranky and bent out of shape about it.

Wow, that's pretty harsh man!
I knew the plugs were in sets of three. Thanks for confirming the location of the spark plugs, which is all I really wanted to know.
I also want to thank you for the insults! It’s your professionalism that I respect.
