Just picked up a 97 Montero with what appears to be factory installed fog lights. There is a button on the dash just to the left of the gauges that looks like fog lights.

The lights do not come on, and the button does not illuminate, though it appears to work fine.

My first thought is a fuse, however the manual does not mention fog lights anywhere and does not the show the button in any diagrams. The fuse blocks (inside under dash and under hood) do not appear to have anything marked for fog lights, nor is there anything that is unmarked.

So where is the fuse?

Hi

The factory installed switch will light up (amber) when pressed, indicating the REAR fog lamp is ON, which is factory installed too.

Front fog lamps are usually post factory installed, using relays, but also connected and activated by the same switch.

The fuse for the fog lamp is located in the fuse box inside the engine compartment, next to the battery (RH drive), middle bank and marked no. 11. It is rated for 10A.

If you are not sure which one (markings erased), just pull out the FOURTH from TOP (or fifth from bottom) and check whether it's blown.

Thank you for the reply.

I have checked that fuse, you were right, the box top is worn off, but the fuse was NOT blown.

The dash switch does not light up, however I can hear what sounds like a relay click when pushing the button.

Any other ideas?

Do you think the bulbs in the fog lamps may be out? I had to replace one of mine. It's pretty easy to take out the lamp assembly and check. And maybe the switch bulb is out?? I am starting to have all kinds of interior bulbs go out. My Montero is a 2000. Right now the bulbs I have out are a seat heater switch, drive at the shifter, compass, neutral and park on the instrument cluster, and I'm sure there are some more I can't think of right now.

I took a little further look at it today. There is power to the switch, and leaving the switch. I can hear a relay clicking under the dash, but cannot see where it is. Appears to be almost behind the heater box?

No power to the lights themselves.

Anyone have any ideas? I am curious what/where the relay is.

I have some limited success, though no idea why.

Yesterday, during a particularly heavy rain storm the fog lights (front) came on. I noticed them in the reflection of a bumper in front of me. They are relatively dim, but are nonetheless on. The went on and off normally with the dash switch, though there is still no internal illumination at the switch nor is there any light in the instrument cluster.

I did not notice that the key must be in the ON position for them to work, though I had checked for operation before with the engine running, so this is not the source of my problem.

I further noticed that I have no rear fog light.

Other than the truck just liking the rain, anyone have any other suggestions?
