Well where to begin. Here is a little background.

Several weeks ago my wife was driving our 01 eclipse spyder when "It just quit going". I went and towed the car back to take a look at what the problem may be. Up until now we have had no problems with the car, runs great, drives great shift great, etc. Now when put into gear, (all gears including reverse) it just idles up and doesn't go anywhere. I ran through some simple diagnostics that I found on the web, ( by the way there is not very much info except for forums like this one) checking relays, fuses etc. Pulled the dipstick and the fluid level was good, the fluid looked good and didn't smell burnt. So my forgone conclusion was that the PCM (powertrain control module) had gone out. I had my brother , who is a mechanic at a Honda dealer bring home a scanner and check for any codes, there were the usual, o2 sensor, egr, blah blah, and one more I believe it was p1751 or p1571? not too sure as it has been a couple of weeks, but it is the code for the PCM failure.

At this point I was thinking at least I don't have to get a new tranny, or rebuild mine, I just need to find a new computer. Unfortunately a new one ($1475) was out of the question for me. So I started digging around on the web to see what I could come up with. Not to terribly hard, I found one the first day. The computer was out of the exact same car:

2001 Eclipse Spyder Convertible, 3.0 V-6, automatic: identical

I go ahead and buy the computer, wait a couple of days and the UPS guy shows up with it.

Here is where it sucks. Even though it came from the exact same car the numbers on the computer are different.

The numbers on mine: MR560540

The numbers on computer #2: MD367859

I think well I'll give it a try; no such luck. Back to square one, my own dumb azz fault for not checking the numbers prior to buying it. Well now it is a little tougher try to get the numbers from a computer at a junk yard half way around the country. About 1/2 a day of calling and I finally found one. I double and triple checked with the guy to confirm that the numbers MR560540 were the same. Perfect I buy and and wait a couple more days for the delivery(now Fed Ex).

Here is where is sucks even worse:
I get the computer and put it in. Unfortunately: No dice. I take a closer look at the computer to find out that the numbers are still off by a little.

Mine Reads: MR560540 (MAIN NUMBER)
E6T34176 H21ZC (SUB NUMBERS)
E070T904JC

The new one reads: MR560540
E6T34176 H11ZC
E070T904HC

Now I'm back to square one looking for an exact match for my cars computer. I hope that this post helps anyone who is dealing with a computer problem, and hopefully you don't go through the hoops that I have so far. Even if you get the computer from the same vehicle. year, make, model, etc, make sure that you check the numbers to a T to confirm that it will work for your car.

Needless to say I am looking for a computer for mine with the numbers:

MR560540
E6T34176 H21ZC
E070T904JC

If you have one please let me know.

Also I now have two computers for sale if you need one. Make sure that the numbers match yours.

The first one:
MD367859
E2T70285 H1H 0208

The Second one:
MR560540
E6T34176 H11ZC
E070T904HC

They both came out of running 2001 eclipse spyders 3.0 v-6, with auto

question 1: did you get your car running yet? (i don't think you did but just making sure)

suggestion 1: DO NOT PLUG A JUNK YARD PCM INTO YOUR CAR. IT CAN GO TO LOCK OUT MODE AND YOU MAY HAVE TO REPLACE ALL THE MODULES.

Thats a typical Chrysler anti theft.

I hope you didn't just completely screw yourself.
Each computer is VIN matched and coded to prevent thefts. If there is a discreptency you can be fucked really easily.

I'm still waiting to get the new one with the matched numbers in. However I plugged both of the other two in that didn't work, them plugged my old one in and it still ran fine. I'm not to sure about what you are talking about with the anti-theft lock out? Any more information? Do I need to take the new computer into the dealer and have it coded for my car? Let me know if you know for sure. Everyone I talked with said that I didn't need to do that. That there are some ECU's that have a chip in them that you need to change out, but not on these. Thanks

this may not play a part in the mitsu but on Chrysler products each modules are not interchangeable with others. you need to get new ones and have them VIN specific programmed. Just keep in the back of your mind for another project. Sorry to confuse you.

Actually, Thanks for your post! I talked with the dealers service tech and he said that you do not reprogram the ecu, But the way it works is that you have to have the keys recoded for the new computer. He also said that the computers are all interchangeable from the main part number, mine was MR560540, Which means that the second computer that I got will work just fine once I get the keys recoded. Thanks for getting me to check into this further and not go dish out some more cash for another computer that I don't need.

Side note also, The dealer said if you have a newer car you would also have to have the engine immobilizer replaced as well. to work correctly.
