Hello All,

Last night I decided to take out the passenger seat of my 04 Galant to make some room for some big cargo. After taking the seat out, the SRS light as well as the "Passenger Seat belt" light remained on. So I thought it was just because I had the seat out, so I put the seat back in and re-connected the 2 harnesses but the light still stays on. I tried disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes, but the lights are still on.

Can this light be reset at home or do I have to go to the dealer?

Also, Can driving without the passenger seat, or not getting light reset cause anything happen to the airbag? Like for it to deploy while driving?

Thanks All... :)

KCman,

Passenger Air Bag Off Indicator

- This indicator normally comes on when the ignition switch is turned to "ON" position and should goes off a few second later IF A PASSENGER IS SEATING ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. If a passenger weights is less than 66 lbs. light will still ON.

SRS Warning Light

- This indicator should also comes on when the ignition switch is turned to "ON" or "START" position for several seconds and then go out.

[/B]Passenger Seat Belt

This indicator should also comes on whenever ignition switch is turned to "ON" position and goes off a few seconds later. If front passenger seat is occupied and not buckle up this indicator will lit up until buckle up is engage.

Check to see your connections are connected on the right connector and not missing any connections.

Then, Position the passenger seats back and forth and try to turned on your engine. Wait a several seconds and observe the SRS light indicator to turn off on your meter cluster. If it turned off it means that the problem in the passenger seat weight sensor is now working correctly. Also, ask a friend to sit on the passenger seat and buckle up and observed the passenger seat belt and passenger air bag indicator to turned off.

SRS indicator function to check drivers air bag, front passenger air bag, side air bag, DRIVERS Seat position sensor, PASSENGER"S SEAT weight sensor, SEAT BELT BUCKLE and SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONERS. If this indicator LIT UP and not turned off, air bag will not work and very dangerous when driving.

Message me what happens! hope this helps!

It needs to be brought to the dealer to reset the srs light. You won't be able to just reset it with any scantool. Just tell them you took the seat out and just need the srs light reset.

Yeah, I did the same thing. There isn't anything wrong with the SRS system. The SRS ECU permanently retain certain codes that can only be erased with certain scan tools and not by disconnecting the negative on the battery.
