Hey, I'm new to this board, and I'm interested in buying a 2000-2005 4 Cyl Eclipse, and want to know how reliable these cars are.

From a quick google search, some common problems arose:

1. Bent 17" Wheels, which cause tire problems
2. Few recalls (engine harness grounding out, auto trans cooling line leaking, fuel tank leakage)

Can you guys please give me some more insight on the types of common problems these cars have and some things I should carefully look at during the test drive?

Thanks In Advance

They don't really have many major problems with them. Any car is reliable if you take care of it properly. But then again there is always the chance that you get that 1 out of so many eclipses that just has everything go wrong with it. But I have put 20k miles on mine in under a year and have had nothing other than normal maintenance work for my car. They are quite reliable, but like I said, just make sure you take good care of the car.

I must of been one of those guys who bought a messed up eclipse. I've already replaced the rims, clutch master cylinder and the sensor that says how much gas is in the tank all in about a year. If i could go back, i would of gotten the car inspected b 4 i bought it.

The most common problem i think is the rims. they are soft for some reason and bend very easily. Simple fix = aftermarket rims/tires.

Even if you have to dish out some extra cash to fix minor stuff, you will love the car. Its amazingly fun to drive.

Get the wheels off a 3g GS, they are the really thick 5 spoke wheels and they are pretty damn strong. I smashed into a curb and the only damage was a small chunk out of it, but I showed that curb who was boss. But the lightpole wasn't so nice........

Lightpoles tend to hold their ground against cars... like trees and power lines

I would've owned a power line, but this lightpole had a base about 4 or 5ft around. It didn't feel good to hit it that's for sure.
