I was looking for some possible options before I take this car to the shop. The gear shift moves, but the car doesn't. The links looked to be connected correctly. I hear a humming noise coming from the trans when the gear selector is in R,D,2,L, but not in P or N. ANy suggestions?

First thing did you check your fluid? From the sounds of it sounds like you lost your trans. On my first car I had something like that happen. I was driving down the road heard a clang and then lost all forward gears and reverse.

I checked the fluid and it was way over the marks, so I drained it down to where it should be. I then noticed that the motor seemed to get really rough/ almost stall in park and neutral, but when I place the gear lever in D,L,2 the engine would be fine. Still wouldn't go anywhere though.

I'm new to this. I don't have a clue as to where the TCU is or what it looks like. I don't have a manual yet, so can you point me in the right direction?

I am honestly not sure where they are on your motor off the top of my head. I will check the manual when I get home (If I remember lol :P ).

try replacing the fluid and filter. you "technically" aren't supposed to do that because it can cause problems but in this case, you already have problems

Sorry it took so long to reply, but I'm back.
I drained the transmission and changed the filter, nothing happened. So, the person I got the car from gave me a 1990 eclipse turbo transmission and told me that it would fit I just had to get it installed. I couldn't find anything that said it wouldn't fit, so what do you think happened? The transmission worked, but there is a power/economy button, that when pushed the transmission acted funny. The engine would race and you had to ease up in speed to. When unpressed the button the transmission seemed to work fine, so I guess there is some difference in the wiring.

So I guess my question to anyone would be, is there a way to have the power/economy button when pushed function correctly without making the tranny act funny?

I thought all the pwr/eco switch did was switch between settings in your ecu than made the motor run different? and didn't do anything with the tranny

What I know about this is that when I push the power button, then try to accelerate, the engine revs up, but I don't go anywhere. If I slowly accelerate then it will catch and but I am seriously going slow. If I push the button for economy, it runs fine. It accelerates fine with no problems.

Sry just saw this topic, Actually the tranny will not bolt up to that motor. You have the 420a in your car, where as the motor that tranny is from is the 4G63.

EDIT: Oh shit nvm I could have sworn it said you have a 96 GS lol my bad. Yea the tranny will bolt right up. as for the button or w/e your talking about. I have no idea.

most likely cause is that the end clutch is bad. it's pretty common and follows the exact symptoms you described
