When the automatic shifts from 2nd gear to 3rd, the RPM goes up for about a second as if I was hitting the gas pedal in neutral. After that it drops down as the shift occurs and everything is fine.
It happens only while the shift is forward. When I slow down it shift fine.
Any ideas?

Go to your Mitsubishi dealer and buy the transmission sensors, filter and gasket. disconnect the battery and drain the transmission fluid, remove the filter and sensors and change them yourself. That should fix it and should take about an hour. If it doesn't work right then you will need a transmission overhaul kit or a new transmission. I had the same problem with my '93 Stealth and now it runs good.

Thank you very much for the info.
Sounds like the extended warranty I bought is going to pay off.....
The car is going to be tested tomorrow morning and we'll the verdict.
The car is 5 years old with 52K miles. Kind of strange that this would happen now - since you've mentioned that yours is a '93.
I will update the forum tomorrow after it will be tested. I'm not a car guy. I could care less how it works etc, so for me to do anything but put gas and let the mechanics take care of oil change, tires and inspections (on time) is pretty much out.
I truly appreciate the info and at least I will have something to bounce what I'll tomorrow against.

Well, transmission is fine. There's a misfire with one of the spark plugs. The car needs a tuneup, not new transmission. It is in the shop as I write these lines.
The transmission option was eliminated because it behaves well when the engine is still cold, then, after about 30 minutes of driving it creates the high RPM when shifting from 2nd to 3rd.
I also wanted the shop to change timing belts, all the filters, gaskets and whatever they can touch but to my CDs....
Total damage to pocket = $1,450
Concept: Investment. I own the car and intend to take it to the grave (mine or its) unless I hit the lottery first. For me it is a good investment.

Ah, you see? we are talking about two different things.
I pay for value, you pay for money.
The car is a tool, not a leg or an eye. I need to relay on this tool 100% and 100% of the times. I don't look for the cheapest price, I look for the service, the reliability and the fact they give me oil change for life, tire rotations, car wash and good work with warranty.
For me, it is the value. I can depend on this car because of this type of service.
I probably invest in a car that much money once every 6 years. That's $20 a month for reliability.
Yes, I have the money to do it probably weekly, but I prefer to save it.
Peace man, and I hope you'll win the lottery soon.

Again, you talk money, I talk value.
The car for me is nothing but a tool to take me from point A to point B. Why waste money on any other more expensive car when I already have the wheels?
I was thinking of the Toyota Avalon, but I really don't need it.
The Galant I have was a bet I made with someone in 2004. I won the car and to show that I don't really care, I still drive it. I had a leased Saturn L300 before the Galant and it was fine. Again, I don't care for cars... sorry.
In 1988 I bought a Nissan Sentra for $7,000 (base model, manual). I put three phones in it, two computers and a $10,000 stereo system.... Who knew???? :-))) I drove the car for 120,000 miles and donated it to Children's Hospital when I leased the Saturn.
Life is short, it is a small world, play a lot.
Peace my friend.

> 1. if you dont care abought cars then why are you on
It's a tool idiot. A tool. How do you hammer a nail? with your head? You get a tool called a hammer. Simple. I need a car to get from point A to point B, that's all.
> 2. you bought a 1988 Nissan Sentra wtf
You really need to read my post before you answer. I bought it in 1988. It was brand new. And when you live in the Washington DC area and work for a special agency, you don't want to stick out too much. Get it?
> 3. you had 3 phones lmao ok your on crack
If you had a brain, you would know that those with three phones and dealing with crack are never the loser users. They are the dealers. Get it?
> 4. you had 2 computers in it for what
One to track weapons and one to run payrolls for clients.
> 5. and a $10,000 stereo lmao
Yes sir! It would blow another hole in your azz with one thump of its bass.
> 6. and even if you had all that why in the hell would you donate
Because there are kids who need medical treatments and don't have the money. I donated the care WITHOUT the extra equipment, you smart azz, so kinds can get treated.
> that just shows how much of a jack azz you are
I think it shows how stupid you are. But than again, I'm not blaming you. It was fun exchanging email with you :-)
