i am putting a new stage 2 racing clutch in my 2001 spyder eclipse GT 3.0L 5 speed and i ran into a very frustrating problem! I have taken out all the motor mounts but 1 in the left side so that i can raise and lower the motor. I dropped the front suspension and EVERYTHING is disconnected from the transmission but it REFUSES to come off... i can get about an inch of room on one side at a time pushing and pulling on it... but it acts like its bound up or somthing. it just doesn't make any sense to me because it should just slide off right? i have had 3 people including myself pushing up from underneath and pulling and everything.. even tried putting a ratchet strap to it and a tree to force it off.. i'm out of ideas and need help.

P.S. putting a clutch in a front wheel drive vehicle is a pain in the ass!

there has to be a bolt or two you missed. Double check to be safe. Not worth cracking the housing.

Your clutch would have to be royally screwed for it to do that. I am going to have to agree with Gview and roughneck. You probably have a bolt that is "hidden" that is still in there.

hey man message back if you find out anything important like a hidden bolt because i am doing the same thing in my 2001 GT (non-spyder)
i have a 3.0 and have a feeling that its probably exactly the same. does any one know if there are any differences cause i know that there are some differences between the spyder and non-spyder models

thanks,
burban

Why did you disconnect any motor mounts? The answer should be I don't know I'll put them back on.

You should disconnect the mount from the transmission. a number of bolts from the block and if I remember correctly you have two support braces. Then it slides off. Be sure not to let the transmission rest on the input shaft... you'll be pissed with the outcome.
