If when you turn the key and hear a click that is usually just the starter.

I have spark on 4 out of 6. I tried a coil pack from another car, and it's definetly the forward most coil.

When I had spark on all 6, and still no start - I set my sites on the fuel system (even though I had smelt fuel cranking with open cyliners).

there definetly wasn't enough pressure in the fuel system. Maybe if I just clean up by ground at the fuel pump (thanks Blink), I'll get some BOOM.

The starter is good - the engine moves. Although there is somthing not quite right in the ignition circuit - I think it's just the ignition key assembly though.

Well... I think the fuel pump is good - the corosion on the ground wire may have been causing some trouble...

BUT... I busted the nipple on the fuel tank cover when I detatched the flexible fuel line length. Everything is really nasty under there - I should really put in a new fuel line front to back, but I want to get the engine running before I do anything more.

Does anyone have any ideas how i can provide adequate fuel to test the engine?

It actually looks a lot better in the pictures... It almost seems like somone took this sucker off-roading. I brought my starter to Advanced Auto Parts to be tested... they guy said, "The starter is good... it looks like you found it in a swamp, but it is good."

The only thing that isn't coroded is the cat-back Borla Exhaust - it looks decent - I might move it to my working car.

I suggest putting a piece of 2x4 between the cinderblocks and the frame of the car.

+ props for actually using the blocks correctly though. Many people don't realize they are strongest the way you have them.

EDIT: I think I see 2x4's in there. Good Job.

Yep - I've got a stack of two 4" 2x4 blocks on top of each stack of cinder blocks. It was a difficult process with my limited equipment.

Well - the fuel pump isn't getting power. I rigged it up to a hose, and got nothing... so I ran it outside the tank, and nothing. (with key on) I did hook it direct to power, and it runs like mad - so it's not the pump itself.

(IMG:http://www.adamanthony.net/mitsu/fuel_rig.jpg)

I pulled my ECU to see if it had any visible damage... It looks brand new (only brand new (looking) thing in the dam car.) I might venture to test the ECU in my other car.

That ECU is a brand new replacement from the dealer. Nice find!!!

Now, please go do a compression test. It sounds like you are going in the wrong direction. If it had the accessory belts broken, the crank pulley could have seperated causing the PS belt to go around the crank sprocket and jump some teeth. The previous owner probably had the belt replaced in hopes it would just start running again. If the engine is spinning with no real resistance I bet you have bent valves.

I picked up a compression gage on my lunch break, and I’ll give it a try. I’ll do the compression check this week and report back.

When I had my plenum off, I took a look down inside with a flashlight and could see some of the valves. The ones I could see looked ok… well, they were caked with crap, but they didn’t look bent.

Shouldn’t my fuel pump turn on completely independently from all that? The fuel system is supposed to pressurize when the ignition key is set to on, right?

Aside from it being nice and shiny, how can you tell my ECU is brand new from dealer?

Thanks,
AYD

Thanks Hans – you put me on the right track…

I did my compression check, and here’s what I got…

(IMG:http://www.adamanthony.net/mitsu/pressure_small.jpg)
ZOOM

That’s right – zero! :(

I took a look at my intake valves, and they look ok, but they were all open and didn’t move when I cranked it over.

(IMG:http://www.adamanthony.net/mitsu/valves_small.jpg)
ZOOM

So I pulled my valve covers and found what can only be described as…. a mess.

(IMG:http://www.adamanthony.net/mitsu/rockers_front1_small.jpg)
ZOOM

Notice there are no rocker arms on the intake side? :( Notice the “extra” parts floating around in there?

(IMG:http://www.adamanthony.net/mitsu/rockers_extra_parts_small.jpg)
ZOOM

The same story under the rear valve cover…

(IMG:http://www.adamanthony.net/mitsu/rockers_rear_small.jpg)
ZOOM

If this isn’t a good demonstration of why it is important to keep your timing belt maintained, I don’t know what is…

So this could be a lot worse… I think my valves are ok. The exhaust side seems to move as it should. The damaged rockers aren’t ground to bits…

If I can find all the bits and pieces, and get t
