Drives: 1996 Talon AWD. Built, but no longer drives: 1997 mitsubishi eclipse RS; 1990 Talon AWD; 1995 Talon AWD, 1997 Talon AWD. Seems like a pattern

that swap is almost pointless to increase by 40hp. too much work for that small of a gain.

but. as far as I know you will need everything from the donor car. wiring harness and all

It is still gonnabe a major pita. Plus, you will need custom motor mounts. Good luck. I would have just stuck with the 1.8L. Wait, I did do just that. >.> lol

Um.. the custom mounts are custom for a reason... meaning you will have to have them made at a machine shop. expensive and that is most of the pita part.

damn there is a good machine shop here so that won't b that bad except for the price. So other than the mounts it should b a smooth swap right. I dnt have power anything and an uncut harness just wish me luck

someone's sig around here illustrates the point beautifully: engine swaps are for hondas. im assuming, from your posts, that most of if not all your previous cars were hondas. DSMs dont handle engines swaps well unless you are replacing the old engine with another one of the same kind (i.e. 4g63 -> 4g63). like you have been hearing, putting a 2.0 into a 1.8L car is going to suck. and youll still be slow. dont get me wrong, the 1.8L and 2.0L DSMs are great cars; they just arent that fast in stock form. my advice is to sell the eclipse, the spare engine, and the complete wiring harness and buy a factory-turbo'd DSM (GS-Turbo, GSX, TSI, TSI AWD, RS-Turbo, or RS-Turbo AWD) instead. youll save yourself a ton of headaches and, if you play your cards right youll save some money too. plus, youll end up with a car so much faster than the one you started out with it wont even be funny. if you want honduh-crushing performance, get a turbo. theres my 2 cents. take it or leave it.

Im gonna turbo this engine. Where i live though it is very hard to find a factory gst,gsx or tsi and if you do your gonna pay 3 times what its worth and its been dogged to hell and back. This is just a project car for me so i plan on spending the time and money on it to get it where i want it so its not that big of a deal on the headache part i have a lot of patience and time

i see. well its your money, not mine. at any rate, i would also say that you should build up the engine before putting it into the car. this should give you plenty of times to fab up some motor mounts. i cant tell from your other posts, but if you have a non-turbo, the factory non-turbo 4g63 has different internals than the turbo 4g63. you cant just drop in a n/t 4g63 then slap a turbo on it. you have to put forged internals in it also.

it is a non turbo and i do plan on building the internals up while the engine is out of the car but from what ive been reading the only internals that are different is the pistons. correct me if wrong. and with this motor swap im stripping the entire car out its gonna b a bare shell when i start this swap so hopefully it will go a little more smoothly than normal.
