The unit that the oil filter attaches to? Can I just replace that or what is all involved? Its leaking oil from there, my valve cover and my oil pan gasket area

no one has this, so I called my mitsubishi dealer. $109.28 for the part and $5.85 for the gasket.

He said maybe my oil leak problem could be coming from my lower timing cover??

Possible, yes, probable, no.

How is oil supposed to leak out of a part that has no oil in it?

Answer: It can, but some other gasket would be leaking into it.

Pop your upper timing belt cover off and see if you have any oil on your timing belt. (the one that is over the valve cover, you know, the one that most people take off so you can see thier pretty colored belts)

^ thats a great sign. that means nothing is leaking from the front main seal to the oil pump and balance shaft seals.

if your oil filter housing is leaking its probably because the gasket is bad. just replace the $6 gasket. But, when you have it off inspect it and take it apart to clean it thoroughly

I know they say the seals on the oil caps go bad after awhile, but mine is BRAND new and still leaking oil. I dipped the valve cover in cleaner and wash basin full of warm water. I stil find NO cracks or anything like that.

Check your valve cover where your oil cap screws on. Look at it really goot on top and on the inside edge of the opening. You might have a little burr or tiny little gash that is scratching the gasket of the oil cap when you put it on. Oh, and you can change the vacuum line that goes from the valve cover to the intake pipe, right after the MAF (the other one besides the PCV valve).
