Hi Guys 2nd time back! First time round you guys were a huge help! so please again!

1992 - Z16A - Mitsi GTO

I had a problem with Valve Stem Seals so pulled heads out changed over problem fixed! bathed the heads in a acid bath and cleaned up all the lifters and now this car purrrrs!

About 4-5 months after doing this the car has just decided to cut out when it feels like it, at first i thought it was a problem with the alarm as this started doing silly things so i removed it but that didn't fix it.

Basically your driving the car then all of a sudden it loses all power, try to restart it again and it won't, it turns over but doesn't fire but then leave the car for a few hours and try to start again and it starts! this problem occurs weather the car is hot or cold. car has good oil, doesn't overheat and runs/sounds perfect.

Please if anyone could shed some light on this for me i would be greatful!

Could be cam sensor, crank sensor, coil pack or all three.

Try basic things first, fuel filter, plugs, leads. could even be ignition coil.

your ignition coil could be shot, but before you go spending lots of money, use the diagonsis port in the car with a digital multimeter to see if there is any sensor problems - a good website for the info is:

if your anywhere near wellington i'd be happy to take a look at it for you as i'm an apprentis mechanic :)

few opinions put it at a leaking capicitor in the ECU

Hi Guys! Thanks for your help so far, well checked ECU and all is ok. so my next guess would be the fuel pump aye? well i going to check that but if you have any other ideas by all means please post!

Hi blonde_freek thanks for your help i have had a look at this site codes testing with volt meter looks like for 1996 and above? will this method work on a gto off the top of my head its a 1992 could be 91 hehe... one of the two anyways. thank you again!

its for cars before 1996, but even on some newer cars it can still be done, it will work easy as on your car =]

Hi Guys, help please! ECM has checked out all ok, fuel pump has checked out ok (replaced fuel filter - but didn't really need to be changed as the old one was still ok) engine won't start at all, turns over just doesn't fire, could this be the coil? any help would be greatfully appreciated!

Don't know if this is dumb or not but have been reading a few websites, some sites reckon on the diagnostic plug you can link 2 pins together by wire to have the check engine light flash to read the codes. ?? is this possible?
