Hi Anne
I think you are at the wrong forum, but no sweat.
All stock radios have their own plugs (as you refer to them), which differ from post factory sets (Sony, Pioneer, Blaupunkt, etc....). Add to this is their own color coding for each wire out to the rear, front, sides speakers, earth/ground, antenna, amplifier, fader, etc.
You would need to read the installation instructions that come with your new set, very, very carefully if you are up to it. You'd need to cut off/remove the original plug, and match each wire to the new set (usually come with its own plug and set of wires). Use proper connectors and sealing tapes at all these new connections/joints.
Determine which wire goes to which speaker, etc. Black is always ground and red is usually live. (careful here, or you'll blow a fuse). Get a circuit tester to find the live wire when you turn the key to ACC/Start.
There is also (usually) another live wire that connects to your auto antenna from this set, which activates your.......auto antenna!
If you have a power amp, then there's also another pair that goes to this. All said, your installation instruction should direct you to each and every wire.
If you are electronically inclined, you should have no problems at all here, except that you may get some back, leg, neck, muscle cramps due to the tight working/hunching position and the dash.
Oh, by the way, I would suggest that you MARK and stick a small piece of masking tape to each wire when you cut them, so that you will know which is what. Believe you me, you will never regret this.
