The wife and I want to go on a trip some time in december or Jan. She has a free flight from Southwest so the only thing we would have to pay in regards to travel is my flight.

Anyone have any suggestions of where they've been or want to go? Its not a vacation to relax type of thing we want to go see some sights somewhere.

Portland Oregon.

It is always green, in the winter it stays nice, but is a little more overcast. The beaches are the best in the US. All of them are off a cliff face so you can go rock climbing at the beach. You are only 3 hours from seattle, 2 hours from the sand dunes(which you would love), and 1 hour from the beach.

Oh, and because I said so.

Grand Canyon or Yellowstone.... Both awesome places if you into hiking and stuff.

Florida, mostly Key West or Sarasota for the beaches

Texas for BBQ. I'd say you could visit but I don't know how much longer we'll be here!

+1. if you like the outdoors, either one of those are great. if youre looking for something smaller you can go to WV. Great hiking and outdoors experiences there.

Sarasota is just awesome. Period.

I lived in south west PA for most of my life, WV was almost in my back yard. been to the grand canyon but Yellowstone sounds like fun. BBQ in texas sounds good too but we'd probably drink too much and miss our flight

haven't been to key west and portland sounds fun. Keep the ideas comin!!!

I totally agree with Bob. I lived there for a few years, and if I could pick anywhere I had to live, it would be Portland. The people are nice, the night life is great, you're not far from the coast, and there's a ton of stuff to do out there. :) I'll be moving back soon, which will make it even harder to meet up with all you damn east coast SOB's.

Johannesburg - South Africa

Fast-paced, frenetic JOHANNESBURG has had a reputation for immorality, greed and violence ever since its first plot auction in December 1886. Despite its status as the largest and richest city in the country, it has never been the seat of government or national political power, allowing it to concentrate fully on what it has always done best: make money and get ahead. Those priorities have, over the years, cut across political and racial lines: only in Jo'burg would ambitious black Africans like Nelson Mandela have been able to train in a white law firm; only in Jo'burg would creative hotspots like Sophiatown and Alexandra exist at all; and only in Jo'burg would white liberalism have been given any intellectual recognition in the dark days of apartheid.

But seriously go to San Francisco. And stay at the Hilton, You'll be near the cable cars and you'll also be in the heart of the city. Lots of places to eat and its San Francisco you'll find something to do with a simple google search.
