soon i plan on changing my tranny fluid because the shifts in my car have gradually deteriorated in the last few weeks. it doesnt grind, but i am having to wait longer and longer between shifts before it will let me into gear. 2nd is the worst. i have concluded that it must be old fluid. anyways, im pretty sure im going to go with syncromesh this time. anyone ever used it? anyone have any other suggestions concerning effective trans fluid?

i remember reading about that stuff. ive been all over DSMtuners, and they cant agree on which fluid is best. the syncromesh and syncro shift are prolly the 2 most recommended fluids for our transmissions. i dont know as much about the syncro shift though. is it synthetic? and is it "yellow-metal friendly?" i know some fluids have good performance at the expense of syncro longevity. since this is my DD, i dont want anything that will speed up syncro deterioration. ill see if the auto-parts store has some syncro shift when i go in. i know they carry syncromesh, so it wont be a complete loss.

there are a bunch of good ones. its just like engine oil, as long as you use the correct weight any of the recommended ones are good. its just a matter of personal preference. I've always used the BG so thats why I recommend it. Im sure the others are good i just don't have experience with them

i went to Autozone yesterday, and picked up 3 quarts of penzoil syncromesh. i looked for BG, but they didnt have it (go figure). ive got another question now: what weight is that BG stuff? this syncromesh looks very thin, almost like regular motor oil. i thought transmission fluid was supposed to be heavier than motor oil. i want to say that the OEM gear oil is like 75w90, or something in that vein. why is this syncromesh so thin?

Yes, actually I do seeing as Not one person has had luck with any other company's spark plug in the 3000GTs. So I will stick with OEM mitsubishi which is NGK.

get this shit: changed the trans fluid today, NO fluid in the trans! (IMG:http://smiliesftw.com/x/gah.jpg) maybe a coffee-cup full. i was completely blown away! on the up side, there were NO, NONE, metal shavings. i dont know how long its been running like that, but ive only put 5 or 6k miles on that car. i think i got lucky, trans is still in good shape. now, next time i say i baby the hell out of my car, this thread will be my evidence: no trans fluid and no shavings; i am a granny-shifting GOD!

anyways, i put in the penzoil syncromesh, and i havnt noticed a huge difference. i only drove it 2 miles or so, but i did noticed that the notchy-ness was reduced slightly, but noticeably. i drive to and from class tomorrow, so that will be my official test drive. ill update more then.

Well, just to throw this out there, the 1st-2nd synchroniser is a common problem on these cars. It has a tendacy to wear out, and if you had no fluid, yeah could have ruined it.

Note: If you get a wild hair up your @ss and decide to pull it and change it out, BEWARE, the basturds WILL try to sell you the entire gear cluster for like 200-300. You can find JUST the synchro for like $15. Ofcourse, if I would go through that much trouble and pull my tranny out, I think i'd throw in some better gears and a LSD. That's just me though.

see, im not sure what to think now. as of yesterday, i would agree with you. thing is though, this trans only has 30k miles on a rebuild, and despite the low trans fluid, i have never had to grind a gear. no grinds. yes, sometimes it can get balky (when really warm), but no grinds. also, how could the syncro be damaged if there wernt any metal shavings or flakes in the fluid that was drained out? something just isnt adding up...
