ECU = the computer

CAS = Cam angle sensor

This section is more for the 4g63 guys. The one link thing at the top that says 420a forum is where you need to be. I'm sure a mod will have no problem moving you to where you can get the best help.

Can a mod please move this?

ok the ecu is ring in the front under the hood on the drivers side. its a black box that is behind the fuse box. The cam position sensor is a little black circle on the side of the head on the exhaust side. I added a picture with them circled.

I feel for you bro. I'm in the same boat as you.

I have the 1.8L 4g37 motor and my Cam Angle Sensor is inside the distributor.

I havent tested mine yet and Im a little leary of messing with the distributor cuz i dont want to throw off my timing.

I HAVE however replaced the ECU and it didnt solve the problem

*I should say that I had a mechanic replace the ECU and it seemed to run fine for a while but now i am having the same problem again and I have swapped the ECU for another working one and it didnt fix the problem.

I was in the 420A forum and their seems to be an a**load of people having the same problem but no answers. There is one person that keeps saying it's the Fuel Pump relay and another person that insist it's the CAM sensor. At this point it won't hurt to try them both. Today was my breaking point!! I'm going to give it one more go before I go to the dealer and buy another car!! It's been 5 months since I first experienced this problem!!

removing the CAS from the distributor really isnt that hard. If you buy a hayne's manual it has a step by step walkthrough with pictures.

I went and bought a CAM Sensor and a pigtail to go with it so we will see if that's my problem. I will let you know how it works out.

Keep us posted. :thumbsup:

EDIT: Also don't forget that when you install a CAS You will want to make sure its on time. This is easiest done with a datalogger, but VFAQ (http://www.vfaq.com) has tutorials for different methods.

he has a 420a. it doesn't have a CAS. it has a cam position sensor and a crank position sensor. try the crank sensor first they seem to be a common problem.

Ok so I took the car back to the shop with a CAM sensor and NOPE! That's not the problem! I asked the mechanic about the coil pack and he said he changed that already!! I've changed the Coil pack, idle speed sensor, cam sensor, mass air flow sensor, cleaned the throttle body and changed the timing belt!! The only hope we have to go on is that when I got it started we shut the hood and it cut out. The mechanic changed the CAM sensor and it shut off on him 5 times, twice when he shut the door. He ****led the wires for the CAM sensor and the car started up. He is going to keep it for 3 days to check all the wires and worste case change the computer! I will let you know what it actually turns out to be!! Oh and another thing he said it's not the fuel pump relay!

I know this sounds weird but I am going to throw it in here anyhow. I have a friend who used to work for a mitsu dealer in texas. At one point they had an eclipse that wouldnt run unless the cam sensor was unplugged. I do not know what the problem was exactly but maybe you could have the same problem.
